Catch it, eat it, fill your freezer!

Our Catch-a-Fish experience is fully guided and perfect for all ages and no fishing experience is needed. We’ll provide all the gear, show you how to cast your line, and help you land your salmon. 

How much is it? 

  • Fishing Fee: $20 (Covers gear hire and guide)
  • Cost of Salmon: $35 per kg catch weight
  • Filleting: $12 additional (optional)
  • Courier cost: Additional (if required)

NOTE: You must purchase the salmon you catch; we do not do catch and release.

What to expect

  • Before

    Book your 15 minute session online to secure your spot. A $20 fee covers gear hire and one-on-one guidance. Walk-ins are welcome but not guaranteed. Arrive at the Fish Shop 5–10 minutes early and dress for the weather. No fishing licence needed. Children 12 and under must be with an adult.

  • During

    We provide the rod, bait and guidance. Cast your line from our purpose-built platform and try your luck at catching a fresh salmon. Most weigh between 3-5 kgs and you only pay for what you catch, at $35 per kg. If you hook a big one over 5kg, you can swap it for a smaller fish. Catching a salmon is probable, but not guaranteed.

  • After

    Our team will remove the hook from the fish, kill it humanely, and then clean, gut and vacuum pack for you. You can also choose to have it filleted for an additional $12 per fish. We’ll pack it with ice in an insulated bag to keep it fresh for the trip home.  Talk to your guide about courier options if this works best for you.

Can’t take your salmon home?

No problem. We can send it to a friend or an alternative delivery address. Or purchase your catch and donate it to a local food bank. It’s a great way to make the most of the experience while giving back to the community. We love paying it forward at High Country Salmon!
