About High Country Salmon

High Country Salmon is a proudly New Zealand family-owned business based just south of Twizel in the Mackenzie District. Nestled in the cool, glacial waters of Wairepo Arm, our boutique farm has been serving up fresh salmon and warm hospitality since 2000.

From small beginnings

What started as a small floating shop run by founders Margaret and Richard Logan has grown into a one-of-a-kind stop for travellers, food lovers and families. Today, we welcome thousands of visitors every year to enjoy our floating café, salmon farm tours, catch-a-fish experience and fully stocked fish shop & deli.

Local team, real care

High Country Salmon is still owned by the Logan family. Richard and Margaret built the dream and Margaret remains very much involved.  Management of the business was handed to  their son Peter until his unexpected death on Aoraki Mt Cook in 2019. Daughter Jeni is now Managing Director supported by a team of over 60 passionate staff.  We’re proud to continue the Logan legacy of quality, sustainability and genuine Kiwi hospitality.

Our team includes experts across aquaculture, food production, retail, hospitality and tourism – all working together to make High Country Salmon a welcoming place for everyone who stops by.

Fresh & sustainable

From hatchery to harvest, our Chinook salmon are raised with care in fresh, flowing water and to the highest sustainability standards in New Zealand.
With processing, retail and café all onsite, we have the shortest supply chain possible – truly the freshest premium salmon from glacier to plate!

As one of the region’s largest employers, we’re deeply committed to giving back - through partnerships with local businesses, regular donations to community initiatives, and by proudly stocking regional products in our deli. We believe in supporting those around us, and helping our community thrive.
