A Little Bit About Us
Established in 2000 by Margaret and Richard Logan we are one of the two farms raising salmon on the hydro canals surrounding Twizel. Geographically located in the Waitaki District but a stones throw from the Mackenzie District we like to think of ourselves as operating in the 'High Country', hence our name. Richard was a keen angler and it was his passion for fishing that provided the inspiration, motivation and drive needed to make the farm a reality. While Richard's focus was on the salmon and raising them, Margaret put all her energy into creating a small floating shop from to sell the salmon in a variety of options. As this shop has grown the farm has grown to now produce close to 200 tonne of salmon per year.
We are still much smaller than the other freshwater farm in the Mackenzie but our focus is on bringing great salmon to Kiwis and visitors to our little slice of paradise and all our production goes through our shop or via deliveries to restaurants and residential addresses throughout New Zealand.
The next generation joined the business and my son Peter took over as Manager, however after his unexpected death in 2019 we have now appointed a new General Manager - Karl French and along with Farm Manager - Josh Wyber and Business Operations Manager - Tracy Gunn, they oversee the daily running of the Business. We also employ a dedicated team of over 20 experts in salmon processing, production and cooking and this number is bolstered by backpackers during summer when we attract large numbers of locals and tourists alike. Our customers can now enjoy a selection from our salmon inspired breakfast and lunch menu at our floating cafe as well as still being able to feed the fish. Our new dedicated fish shop is perfect if you just need to buy fresh and smoked salmon (wrapped with ice) and carry on with your journey.
We work hard to give back to the community that surrounds us and are proud to support local businesses and services. We are one of the biggest employers in Twizel.
