A Little Bit About Us
Established in 2000 by Margaret and Richard Logan we are one of three farms raising salmon on the hydro canals surrounding Twizel. Geographically located in the Waitaki District but a stones throw from the Mackenzie District we like to think of ourselves as operating in the 'High Country', hence our name. Richard was a keen angler and it was his passion for fishing that provided the inspiration, motivation and drive needed to make the farm a reality. Whilst Richard's focus was on the salmon and the farming of them, Margaret put all her energy into creating a small floating shop from which to sell the salmon in a variety of options. As this shop has grown the farm has grown to now produce close to 200 tonne of salmon per year.
We are still much smaller than the other two freshwater farms in the Mackenzie but our focus is on bringing great salmon to Kiwis and visitors to our little slice of paradise and all our production goes through our shop or via deliveries to restaurants and residential addresses throughout New Zealand.
The next generation has joined the business and whilst Margaret is still very much involved her son Peter has joined her at the helm as a Director. We now employ a dedicated team of close to 20 experts in salmon processing, production and cooking and this number is bolstered during summer when we attract up to 1000 visitors per day! Our customers can now enjoy a delicious coffee and something to eat in our cafe as well as still being able to feed the fish and take away (wrapped with ice) some fresh salmon.
We work hard to give back to the community that surrounds us. All our donations for fish feeding are given back to local groups. We run school visits in conjunction with the Department of Conservation as we believe it is important to educate our children about the sustainable nature of salmon farming in New Zealand. We support local businesses as much as possible and are one of the biggest employers in Twizel.
